MIDDLEFIELD, Conn., July 10, 2002
-- The Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation held its
Seventh Annual Golf Tournament today on the two golf courses at Lyman Orchards,
raising a record $125,000 to go towards water safety awareness and education.
Suppliers and distributors to Stew Leonard's, along with employees and friends
of the store, comprised the 300 golfers who played in the tournament.

Kim and Stew Leonard, Jr. founded the Stew
Leonard III Water Safety Foundation in 1990 after they lost their only son,
Stewie, in a drowning accident when he was only 21 months old. The money
raised this year will help train 200 lifeguards, teach underprivileged children
from the Fresh Air Fund to learn how to swim, and purchase water safety
equipment for YMCAs.

"This tournament and Foundation started
just like our food store. I remember the first year of the golf outing,
I was thrilled to receive a check for $650.00. Every year it just keeps
getting bigger and better through everyone's incredible dedication and generosity,"
said Stew, Jr. "My family and I are extremely touched and grateful
for the incredible support shown today. We know that the Foundation's efforts
can help prevent a tragedy like the one we experienced from happening to
other families."
