STEW’S IN EAST MEADOW WELCOMES THE 2017 MAR-DEL WATERMELON QUEEN FOR WATERMELON TASTING
August 26 & 27, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Celebrate the opening of Stew Leonard’s in East Meadow with the 2017 Mar-Del Watermelon Queen Connor Vincent. Customers will learn how to pick the perfect watermelon from the Watermelon Queen herself and also enjoy complimentary samples of juicy, sweet watermelon from the Queen’s home state of Delaware. Queen Connor’s visit is courtesy of National Watermelon Promotion Board and the Maryland-Delaware Watermelon Association.
Stew Leonard’s will sell almost 3 million pounds of watermelon from June through August and it’s no secret why this refreshingly sweet and juicy melon is at the top of shoppers’ grocery lists all summer long! Clocking in at 92% water, one big slice of watermelon equals about 8 ounces of water and offers excellent levels of vitamins A and C and a good level of vitamin B6. By weight, watermelon is the most-consumed melon in the United States, followed by cantaloupe and honeydew. Whether you’ll be enjoying a wedge of watermelon as part of a backyard BBQ this summer or packing watermelon cubes in the cooler for the beach, watermelon is a versatile and refreshing addition to your summer menu!
Stew Leonard’s new store in East Meadow, N.Y. will open on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. For more information on how to select a watermelon and for watermelon recipes, please visit Stew Leonard’s website.
Connor Vincent, the 2017 Mar-Del Watermelon Association Queen, is the 21 year old daughter of Clayton and Cheryl Vincent, of Laurel, DE. Connor recently graduated Cum Laude from North Carolina State University Agricultural Institute, earning an Associate’s Degree in Agribusiness Management. She will be continuing her education at North Carolina State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In the future, Connor plans to become a consumer educator for food and agriculture for the USDA. She believes as an advocate for American agriculture, she will have the opportunity to promote the safest and cheapest food supply available anywhere in the world.
