Stew Leonard’s Opens First Food & Wine Store in New Jersey
Paramus, N.J. – (September 23, 2019) – Family-owned and operated Stew Leonard’s opened for business in Paramus on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at 700 Paramus Park in the Paramus Park Mall. The debut of the new 80,000 square foot location marks Stew Leonard’s seventh farm-fresh food store in the NY, CT, NJ tri-state area and its first food store in New Jersey. The opening of a seventh Stew Leonard’s is the pinnacle of the company’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
The Paramus store employs 400 Team Members in its nine departments, including the incorporation of Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits of Paramus, which moved from its RT 17 location to the new food store, offering customers convenient, one-stop-shopping for fresh food, as well as more than 1,600 wines, 800 spirits and 500 beers. In addition to new entertainment and animatronics throughout, Stew Leonard’s Paramus l features such Stew Leonard’s signatures as the Customer Service Rock of Commitment, a one-way aisle and the Stew Leonard’s Wishing Well benefitting local non-profits. Since more than 80 percent of the products sold by Stew Leonard’s are fresh, the new store’s production areas are open-to-view, so customers can see the store’s culinary teams as they bake bread, cut meat and fish, make mozzarella by hand, and more.
Prior to the Sept. 18 opening and a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by US Senator Robert Menendez on Sept. 20, Stew Leonard, Jr, president and CEO of Stew Leonard’s, hosted a reception at the new store attended by hundreds of Stew Leonard’s Team Members and their families, local officials, area business people, Martha Stewart and two cows. The evening’s highlight was Stew Leonard Jr. christening one of the cows “Martha Stewart” in honor of the lifestyle guru, a New Jersey native, who has a long history with the regional farm fresh food store. In the early days of her Connecticut-based catering business she bought most of her ingredients at the Norwalk location and Stew Leonard’s was the first to stock her Maratha Stewart branded food products. Over the years, she has done numerous personal appearances and book signings at Stew Leonard’s stores.
Stew Leonard Sr., a milk delivery man for his family’s Clover Farms Dairy, opened the first Stew Leonard’s in 1969 as a 17,000 square foot dairy store in Norwalk. Today, the store is best known for its farm fresh food, dedication to customer service, and a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. The company was recognized as “The World’s Largest Dairy Store” by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not and has been included on Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for 10 consecutive years
