Culinary Classes for Kids

WHAT:
Stew Leonard’s Newington store will offer a number of new cooking classes for children over the next two months, including classes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and Earth Day. The popular A Book and a Bite class series for toddlers will also return where class instructors read the children a food related book and then create a dish based on the story.
The children receive hands-on instruction in preparing various products as well as learn about the importance of measuring, cooperation skills in the kitchen and the importance of food safety.

Price is per child per class, which is payable at the time of registration. Classes will be held in Stew Leonard’s Executive Kitchen on the second floor of the grocery store in Newington, Conn. Children do not need to be accompanied by an adult, except for the classes for toddlers (ages 2-5 years old), which requires an adult to supervise their little one.

Help us celebrate Dr. Seuss’s Birthday as we read some of our favorite books and create some recipes to go along with the theme. Cupcakes and deviled eggs are on the menu!

Come, Let’s Bake a Cake
Each child will bake a cake from scratch and learn different piping techniques as they frost and decorate their own creation. The cake will be brought home to enjoy with your family. Pizza will be provided for dinner.

Think gingerbread houses, but with marshmallow peeps! Kids will have a great time making and decorating their own birdhouses and decorating/frosting some egg shaped cookies.

Let’s celebrate the arrival of spring by making some springtime quesadillas. We will prepare some fresh veggies and sandwich them between whole wheat flour tortillas. While they are cooking, we will decorate a springtime cupcake.

Sushi Making Class with Trip to Stew’s Sushi Department*
We will begin our day with a trip to our Sushi Department to watch our chefs make some of our most popular rolls, then we will grab some ingredients go up to our kitchen and make it for ourselves.  We will also make a cucumber salad and a crispy banana sushi roll up for dessert. Parents please note: peanut Butter will be used in this class.

Gourmet Pizza and Brownie Class*
In this class, we will take a trip to the Cheese Dept to watch Fresh Mozzarella being made. Then we will come back to the kitchen and prepare our own Pizza Margharita and Caprese Salad. Dessert will be gourmet brownies you create yourself, choose from our many flavors and fixin’s to create delicious brownies to take home to your family.

*Spring Vacation Classes are $25 each or children may take both classes for $40
