| NORWALK, Conn., September
8, 2003 – Golfers
who want to test their skill against other players now have the opportunity
to do so from the comfort of their own home with the new virtual golf
game, www.luckygolfer.com --
a skill-based virtual golf tournament where players compete for prizes.
As an added feature, LuckyGolfer, Inc. announced today that players will
have the opportunity to raise money for worthy causes by electing to
participate in online charity tournaments the site will now be offering. |
| |
| The first charitable organization to benefit from this new feature is
the Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation, founded in 1990 with the
mission to save lives through water safety education and awareness for
both children and adults. |
| |
| The Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation 18-Hole Challenge starts
on October 1 and runs through November 30. Interested players register
at http://www.luckygolfer.com and donate to play in the 18-hole charity
tournament. For a minimum donation of $25, a player is entered into the
tournament, gets a free practice game and has 30 days to complete their
18-hole round. Best scores are recorded and winners are determined at the
end of the tournament. The grand prize is a two-night, three-day trip for
two to Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. |
| |
| “A golf course can only accommodate a maximum of 144 players, and
it takes a lot of time and money to execute a charity golf tournament.
An organization is fortunate to come away with 40-50 percent of the money
they raise,” said Rick Perrone, LuckyGolfer’s President. “By
making a charity tournament available online, we are able to accommodate
1000’s of players and guarantee that the charity retains 75 percent
of the money raised. Moreover, there is absolutely no upfront cost to the
charity.” |
| |
| “This is an exciting new way to raise critically needed funds for
water safety,” said Stew Leonard Jr., Founder and President of the
Water Safety Foundation. “Drowning is the leading cause of accidental
death for children under five. For every donation, a player is helping
to buy much needed water safety equipment, contributing to swim lessons
for those who cannot afford them, and ultimately helping to save lives.” |
| |
| The Stew Leonard III Water Safety 18-Hole Challenge
will be promoted through community bulletin boards on YMCA sites, Boating
and Swimming Pool
Industry sites and Parenting and grand parenting information sites, as
well as on www.stewietheduck.com, the Water Safety’s web site. |
