A $20,000 check was presented to the Tri-Town YMCA, to go towards annual swim scholarships, water safety equipment and to help launch the Splash Program in the fall of 2007, which provides free weeklong swimming and water safety lessons to elementary school aged children. "We're thrilled to be a part of the Newington community and we look forward to working with the YMCA to increase awareness of the importance of water safety," said Stew Leonard, Jr., who started the foundation in 1990 with his wife Kim after losing their son to a drowning accident in 1989.
