FREE FAMILY CONCERT AT LEVITT PAVILION
REMINDS CHILDREN ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER SAFETY

15th Year of Annual Concert Sponsored by the Stew Leonard III Children’s Charities Foundation

WHAT:
In conjunction with the Levitt Pavilion’s summer promotion, “50 Free Nights of Entertainment,” the Stew Leonard III Children’s Charities is sponsoring the Hall Family Singers for a free concert and water safety event. The foundation’s mascot, Stewie the Duck, will be on hand to greet children, and representatives from the Westport YMCA will give a presentation before the concert to provide parents and children tips for staying safe around the pool, beach or lake this summer. The U.S. Coast Guard will also be on hand to provide information and water safety coloring books.

WHY:
In addition to a fun evening of family-friendly music and entertainment, the concert provides an opportunity to teach children about the importance of water safety. Through their two children’s books, Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim and Swimming Lessons with Stewie the Duck, Kim and Stew Leonard hope to save lives by reaching children directly with important water safety messages learned through the adventures of Stewie, a duckling who wants to swim with the 'big ducks,' but is prevented from going in the water by his older siblings until he learns the water safety rules.

Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death in children under five and the second leading cause of accidental death for children between the ages of one and 14. Sixty percent of child drowning victims are age four or younger.

WHO:
The Stew Leonard III Children’s Charities Foundation was originally founded in 1990 as the Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation. Stew Leonard, Jr., President and CEO of Stew Leonard’s grocery stores, and his wife, Kim, created the foundation in honor of their son. The foundation changed its name this year to broaden the scope of their community contributions to include education and health-oriented charitable organizations aimed at children.
