GIVING
THANKS: STEW LEONARD'S DONATES TRAILER OF TURKEYS TO CHARITIES AND OFFERS
CUSTOMERS CHANCE TO WIN THANKSGIVING MEAL
|
|
| NORWALK, Conn., November 15, 2002
- Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for our blessings. As a way to thank
the community for their support, Stew Leonard's is continuing a Thanksgiving
tradition that started 20 years ago. The Norwalk store is the pick-up site
for numerous organizations that will be preparing Thanksgiving meals for
families and individuals in need with turkeys donated by Stew Leonard's.
On November 20 at 10:00 A.M., a Stew Leonard's trailer truck will be in
the parking lot to hand out the turkeys to the pre-approved charitable organizations.
|
|
| A lesser-known tradition (because most people
probably keep it to themselves!) is that Stew Leonard's Catering offers
a complete Thanksgiving menu, so families can enjoy their holiday feast
minus the fuss (and spending hours in the kitchen.) One new component to
Stew's Thanksgiving traditions is that one lucky Stew Leonard's customer
in each store will win a complete Thanksgiving meal for eight - just for
stopping by the store and filling out an entry form. |

Stew's Chefs Save Customers Time
From soups and starters to sides and stuffing, as well as the "main
event" - a freshly marinated oven-ready turkey -- Stew Leonard's catering
menu offers a bounty of options that any host facing a flock full of guests
would be grateful for. Every item is prepared fresh by Stew's team of chefs,
and can be picked up at the store or delivered.
|
|
| "Not only is the food prepared fresh
and made with high quality ingredients, but an entire Thanksgiving meal
for eight people, including turkey, gravy, chestnut stuffing, mashed potatoes,
green beans almondine, cranberry orange sauce, fresh baked rolls and pumpkin
pie, costs less than $14 a person," said Chef George Llorens, Executive
Chef at Stew Leonard's. "We save you time, money, and best of all,
let you enjoy the holiday with your family and guests, not in the kitchen."
|
|
| Stew Leonard's Thanksgiving catering menu
can be picked up in any Stew Leonard's store, and can be viewed on the web
site at www.stewleonards.com. Stew's catering consultants are also available
by phone -- Norwalk: 203.847.7214; Danbury: 203.790.8030; Yonkers: 914.375.4700.
We will continue to take catering orders until Tuesday 11/26. |
|
| As a special promotion, Stew Leonard's will
be conducting a random drawing at each store location to win a Thanksgiving
meal for eight. Entry forms are available at the catering pick-up desk and
no purchase is necessary. The winners will be drawn on Monday, November
25. |

Talking Turkey - Stew Leonard, Jr.
Offers Tips for Picking the Best Bird
"I recommend people buy fresh turkeys over frozen ones when possible,
since they tend to retain more of their natural juices and therefore are
more tender," explains Stew Leonard, Jr., president and CEO of Stew
Leonard's. "We sell only fresh, all-natural turkeys, raised in Virginia's
Shenandoah Valley with no artificial additives, hormones or preservatives."
|
|
| Customers frequently ask what size turkey
they should buy. "As a quick rule of thumb, I recommend buying one
pound of uncooked turkey per person," Stew, Jr. suggests. "A fresh
turkey will last two to three days in the refrigerator, especially if stored
in the coldest spot in the refrigerator - the bottom shelf." |
|
| Since opening Stew Leonard's Wine Shops,
Stew also gets asked what some of his favorite wines are. Here are Stew's
picks for Thanksgiving |
|
- Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau
2002: This fruity red wine has very little tannin so it is soft
and easy on the palate and pairs well with turkey.
|
- Sebastiani Pinot Noir 2000: Fruity
reds like pinot noirs work well with traditional Thanksgiving foods,
especially if some of the side dishes also contain fruit.
|
- Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone 2000:
This wine was named "Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of the Year"
and the wine's balanced blend of fruit and spice complement turkey nicely.
|
- Veuve Clicquot Champagne: This
champagne has a very easy-going style, with soft fruit and toasty flavors.
|
| Stew Leonard's was dubbed the "Disneyland
of Dairy Stores" by the New York Times, because of its own milk processing
plant, costumed characters, scheduled entertainment, petting zoo and animatronics
throughout the stores. The company has received worldwide acclaim for excellence
in customer service and quality and was named to FORTUNE magazine's "100
Best Companies to Work For in America" list in 2002. |
