The Bronx Zoo opened one of the first children’s zoo exhibits in 1941. Today, as it has since its earliest days, the children’s zoo engages kids through direct contact with animals in a “domestic area” – or petting zoo. In another area, kids can see the world from an animal’s perspective. They can crawl through a log like an otter or explore a prairie dog tunnel; rest in a bird’s nest or climb on a giant spider web; even try on a kid-size turtle shell! The Bronx Zoo’s award-winning Children’s Zoo is open this year from March 28 through October, weather permitting. This innovative exhibit was named Exhibit of theYear in 1982 by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. The Bronx Zoo is located at the Bronx River Parkway and Fordham Road. April 5 through October, the Zoo is open from 10 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily and to 5:30 p.m. weekends and holidays. General admission is $11 for adults, $7 for senior citizens (65+), and $6 for children (2-12). A POP (pay one price) ticket, including general admission and up to six special exhibits and / or rides, is $19 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, and $14 for children. Kids under age 2 are always free. Wednesday general admission is by suggested donation. Parking is $10 for buses and $7 for cars. Group rates are available for 10 or more by calling 1-800-937-2868.
