Stew Leonards Helps Get Traffic "Moo"ving
A Free Dinner on the Way Home Helps Ease Commuting Stress
NORWALK, CT March 27, 2006 Stew Leonards has signed up
to become a sponsor for the "Connecticut 2,000,000 Mile Rideshare Challenge,"
agreeing to provide free lunch or dinner to thousands of commuters who share
rides to work, to play or even to the local Stew Leonards store. By sponsoring
250,000 miles of reduced driving, the famous dairy store is helping to "cream"
traffic congestion and air pollution throughout the state.
"Stew Leonards is committed to the State of Connecticut and to the quality of
life we experience here," said Meghan Flynn, Vice President of Public Relations.
"We are proud to be a Charter Sponsor of the Connecticut 2,000,000 Mile Rideshare
Challenge and applaud NuRide for bringing its innovative and dynamic solution to
bear on traffic and air pollution in our state."
The Connecticut Challenge will be officially announced by Governor Jodi Rell at
a special event to be held Thursday afternoon, March 30, at the University of
Connecticut-Waterbury, with Stew Leonards being recognized as a Charter Sponsor
of the Challenge.
"We are really pleased that Stew Leonards has stepped forward to sponsor the
Connecticut Challenge, and we are still thinking about their proposal to rename
our company MooRide." said Rick Steele, CEO of NuRide.
As part of the Connecticut Challenge, state residents and workers will be able
to use the NuRide Network® to find the ideal partner with whom to share a single
ride for work or pleasure. Participating commuters earn reward points, called
"NuRide Miles" which they can redeem for gift cards, gift certificates and other
rewards from corporate sponsors. As part of its sponsorship, Stew Leonards will
be providing $5 meal vouchers as a reward to thousands of people who work or live
in Connecticut and actively participate in the Challenge.
The Connecticut Challenge is the second in a series of regional rideshare challenge
events being promoted by NuRide. The inaugural event, the "Chevron 5,000,000 Mile
Rideshare Challenge," was launched on February 28, 2006 and encompasses the greater
Washington D.C. area.
