NORWALK,
Conn., September 29, 2003— Stew
Leonard’s announces a host of Halloween-themed festivities
for little ghosts and goblins – including the area’s
largest pumpkin patch, hayrides, and free ice cream
for children who come to Stew Leonard’s to trick-or-treat on
Halloween.

Halloween Hayrides
The Norwalk store opens their annual Halloween Hayride Spectacular Saturday,
October 4. This year, the 15-minute tractor-pulled hayride features
19 different vignettes, ranging from scenes of popular movie and television
characters, to traditional holiday settings. Stew Leonard’s Danbury
and Yonkers stores have free hayrides through the pumpkin patch. All
children receive free Halloween candy at the end of the hayride.

Pumpkin Patch
Stew Leonard’s offers the area’s largest pumpkin patch, with
65 trailer loads of pumpkins delivered to the store (the equivalent of
50,000 pumpkins.) There will also be giant pumpkins on display, weighing
in at more than 300 pounds. In addition to picking the perfect pumpkin,
Stew Leonard’s Garden Shops are stocked with Halloween supplies and
decorations, including corn stalks and hay bales, Halloween pumpkin and
ghost inflatables, as well as Indian corn, miniature squashes, cornucopias
and decorative scarecrows.
|
Free Ice Cream on Halloween
On Halloween, all children who come to Stew Leonard’s dressed in
costume to trick-or-treat, receive a free ice cream cone. Stew’s
Ice Cream Parlor also features pumpkin fudge and pumpkin ice cream throughout
the Halloween season.

Frighteningly Fresh Food
After a ‘ghoulishly’ good time outside the store, Stew Leonard’s
offers a variety of Halloween themed food inside. Stew’s chefs used
their culinary spells to brew-up some seasonal favorite treats, including
pumpkin and apple spice donuts, pumpkin soup, muffins and bread, pumpkin
spiced coffee and of course, pumpkin pie and decorative cookies and cupcakes.
Stew Leonard’s sells more than 100,000 bags of candy during the Halloween
season that disappears fast at $2.99 per bag or two for $5.00.
|
“We love that our customers
can come to Stew Leonard’s and have a fun afternoon of picking
out the perfect pumpkin, having some apple cider and going on a hayride,
getting all their Halloween supplies and ending the day with an ice cream – pumpkin
flavored of course!” said Stew Leonard, Jr., president and CEO
of Stew Leonard’s. “Our team members even get into the spirit,
dressing up in costume the week leading up to Halloween.”

Stew Leonard's was dubbed
the
"Disneyland of Dairy Stores," by The New York Times, because
of its own milk processing plant, costumed characters, scheduled entertainment,
petting zoo and animatronics throughout the store. Unlike traditional grocery
stores that sell an average 30,000 items, each Stew Leonard's store carries
only 2,000 items, chosen specifically for their freshness, quality and
value.
