STEW LEONARD'S HALLOWEEN HAYRIDE SPECTACULAR AND GIANT PUMPKIN PATCH OPEN FOR A GHOULISHLY GOOD TIME FOR FAMILIES
Store Offers Free Ice Cream on Halloween and 'Frighteningly' Fresh Halloween Food

NORWALK, Conn., October 2, 2002- Beginning this Saturday, October 5, Stew Leonard's puts the 'BOO' in Stew, with the opening of their Halloween Hayride Spectacular at the Norwalk store, plus a Giant Pumpkin Patch and pumpkin and Halloween-themed foods at all three store locations, in Norwalk and Danbury, Conn. and Yonkers, New York.

"Stew Leonard's is the perfect place for families to go this Halloween season for a frighteningly fun time," said Stew Leonard, Jr., president and CEO of Stew Leonard's. "We have the area's largest pumpkin patch to pick the perfect Jack-O-lantern, tons of trick-or-treat candy and Halloween themed-foods, plus our 'Hayride Spectacular' at the Norwalk store is guaranteed to put everyone in the Halloween spirit."

Pumpkin Patch and Halloween Hayride
Stew's Garden Center turns into a sea of orange and becomes home to the area's largest pumpkin patch. This year 200 trailers delivered more than 120,000 pumpkins, enough to fill 36 football fields.

Prior to picking the perfect pumpkin, families can hop on Stew's Halloween Hayride Spectacular which features entertaining displays created by Stew Leonard's team members. The Halloween Hayride is available only at the Norwalk Stew Leonard's location and is open from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Columbus Day. It costs $1.00 per person.

If the hayride stirs up a little goblin's hunger, families can complete their Halloween experience by stopping at the hayride's concession stand, offering cotton candy, candied apples and hotdogs. To add to the carnival-like atmosphere, customers can take a chance and guess how much the Stew Leonard's Giant Pumpkin weighs. On Halloween, Stew Leonard's will announce who guessed the closest. The lucky customer wins $100 worth of Stew Leonard's gift certificates.

The Garden Center also houses everything needed to decorate homes for Halloween, including bales of hay and Indian corn, scarecrows, and hanging ghosts and goblins. Stew Leonard's also has carving kits and decorative paints specially designed to make carving a pumpkin a fun family project.

Frighteningly Fresh Food
After a 'ghoulishly' good time outside the store, Stew Leonard's offers a variety of Halloween themed food inside. Stew's chefs have used their "spells" to brew-up some seasonal favorite treats, including pumpkin pie, soup, muffins, bread and even pumpkin spice coffee. Stew's sells more than 100,000 bags of candy during the Halloween season, and no wonder they disappear fast, at $2.99 each or 2 for $5.

Free Ice Cream on Halloween
On Halloween day all children who come to Stew Leonard's in costume to trick-or-treat will receive a free ice cream cone. Stew's Ice Cream Parlor is featuring pumpkin fudge and pumpkin ice cream throughout the Halloween season.

Stew Leonard's was dubbed the "Disneyland of Dairy Stores," by The New York Times, because of its own milk processing plant, costumed characters, scheduled entertainment, petting zoo and animatronics throughout the store. Unlike traditional grocery stores that sell an average 30,000 items, each Stew Leonard's store carries only 1,500 items, chosen specifically for their freshness, quality and value.
