Championship Coach Takes a "Time Out" to Visit Stew Leonard's Newington Store to Meet Fans and Sample His Sauces
Thursday, May 21st from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM
WHAT:
Come meet Geno Auriemma, UConn Women's basketball coach and now U.S. Women's Olympic basketball coach, as he samples his all-natural tomato basil and fra diavolo pasta sauces at Stew Leonard’s Newington, CT store.
Geno is taking a "time out" between bringing his 24th UConn Women's basketball team to its sixth national championship and third undefeated season and starting coaching the U.S. Women's basketball team for the 2012 Olympics in London in order to meet his loyal fans and sample his sauces, which have sold well at Stew Leonard's in Newington.
WHO:
Geno Auriemma is one of the most celebrated coaches in women's college basketball history, transforming the UConn women's program from one winning record to its credit into the standard that all others aspire to.
His illustrious career includes six national championships, three undefeated seasons and an overwhelming dominance within the BIG EAST Conference. His success doesn’t end on the court, as the women he coaches have had a flawless graduation rate since his arrival as head coach in 1985.
Auriemma was inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (Springfield, Mass.) and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame (Knoxville, Tenn.) in 2006 and has been named national coach-of-the-year six times and BIG EAST coach-of-the-year seven times.
