STEW LEONARD'S VOLUNTARILY RECALLS FIVE VARIETIES OF
PACKAGED NUTS AND TRAIL MIXES AS PRECAUTIONARY STEP

NORWALK, Conn., Feb. 3, 2009 – As a result of the expansion of Peanut Corporation of America's recall to include hundreds of companies who have purchased peanut ingredients produced in their Blakely, Georgia facility since Jan. 1, 2007, out of an abundance of caution, Stew Leonard's food stores in Norwalk, Danbury and Newington, Conn. and Yonkers, NY, is voluntarily recalling the following varieties of Stew Leonard’s nuts and trail mixes:

  • Stew Leonard's Roasted No Salt Peanuts, 18oz
  • Stew Leonard's Cranberry Fitness Mix, 20 oz and 28 oz
  • Stew Leonard's Oriental Mix, 16 oz
  • Stew Leonard's White Chocolate Cranberry Mix, 18oz
  • Stew Leonard's Trail Mix, 20 oz

The move comes after Stew Leonard's was notified by the company that manufactures our trail mixes that some of the roasted peanuts used in the mixes were purchased from The Peanut Corporation of America and may be contaminated with Salmonella. It is important to note that no illnesses have been reported in connection with the products mentioned above.

Stew Leonard's has confirmed that all other products containing peanuts or peanut butter sold in its locations are safe to eat. In addition, Stew Leonard's has already found a new supplier and replaced the trail mixes with peanuts from a verified safe source.

Consumers who have purchased any of the products listed should return them for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Barbara Bucknam, Stew Leonard's Chief Food Safety Officer, at 203.994.5289. A full list of products affected by the recall can be found at www.fda.gov.
