STEW LEONARD'S PRESENTED WITH "EXEMPLARY PATRIOTISM IN THE DISPLAY OF THE AMERICAN FLAG" AWARD
The Connecticut State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in Norwalk Bestows Award in Honor of Flag Day, June 14th Friday, June 13, 2008, 11:30 AM – 11:45 AM
WHAT:
To remind Americans about the history and meaning behind our country's flag and the patriotic importance of displaying it proudly, each year The Connecticut State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in Norwalk (CTSSAR) honors a local business or individual they believe proudly and honorably displays the American flag. This year, CTSSAR is awarding Stew Leonard's with its "Exemplary Patriotism in the Display of the American Flag" award the day before Flag Day, June 14th.
WHO
- Ed Isaacs, incumbent president of CTSSAR, and Harold Osgood, Jr., past-president of CTSSAR, will speak about the history and patriotic meaning behind the American flag and why the society has chosen Stew Leonard's to receive this year's award
- Stew Leonard, Jr., CEO and President of Stew Leonard's, and Stew Leonard, Sr., founder of Stew Leonard's, whose ancestors include Revolutionary War soldiers and other patriotic supporters of the American Revolution, will accept the "Exemplary Patriotism in the Display of the American Flag" award
- Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia will comment on the patriotic efforts of both CTSSAR and Stew Leonard's
Also in attendance will be Connecticut State Senator Bob Duff, Connecticut State Representative Chris Perone, Norwalk Common Council Member Fred Bondi and other dignitaries.

WHY
To celebrate Flag Day, June 14th, a day for Americans to honor and show respect for our flag. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 that officially established June 14th as Flag Day and, in 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
Previous award recipients include Northrop Grumman Norden Systems, the Norwalk Police Department, and the Norwalk Historical Society.
Stew Leonard's has always proudly raised the American flag in front of its stores.
