STEW LEONARD'S NEWINGTON STORE OFFERS CHILDREN'S CULINARY CAMPS THIS SUMMER


WHAT:
Stew Leonard's Newington store is hosting summer culinary camps for children ages seven to 12 years old. The camps will be held every other Wednesday beginning on June 25.

The children receive hands-on instruction and learn about the importance of measuring, cooperation skills in the kitchen and food safety.

Not only do the children get to taste their creations, they also participate in a "graduation" ceremony where they receive a chef's hat and medal at the end of the class, along with the recipes of the dishes they made.

Children do not need to be accompanied by an adult, although parents are welcome to observe.

WHEN:
June 25, 2008 11:00 am- 1:00 pm
DOUGH DAY

  • Children will make culinary creations that have a dough basis including stromboli, pizza, breadsticks with dipping sauces and donuts.
July 9, 2008 9:30 am - 11:30 am
BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
  • It's breakfast boot camp when kids learn how to cook eggs and omelets, waffles and pancakes.
JULY 23, 2008 11:00 am- 1:00 pm
TASTE OF ITALY
  • Children can mangia as they hand-make pasta with complementary sauces including fresh tomatoes and basil, Bolognese and alfredo. There will also be a cheese and gelato tasting.

AROUND THE WORLD APPETIZERS
  • Mozzarella caprese, pigs in a blanket, brie en croute, spring rolls
AUGUST 20, 2008 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
SOUP'S ON
  • Children will learn how to make clam chowder, a vegetable puree soup, cream of broccoli, and cold strawberry soup as well as how to make a bowl out of bread!
