Celebrate Rio's Carnival with Connecticut Chef & Rio de Janeiro Native Leticia Moreinos Schwartz at Stew’s in Danbury

Rio de Janeiro native, cooking teacher, and Connecticut resident Chef Leticia Moreinos Schwartz will help Stew Leonard’s in Danbury kick off a special carnival celebration on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from Noon – 2 p.m. Chef Leticia will sign copies of her latest cookbook, My Rio de Janeiro: A Cookbook, and customers will have the chance to taste two of her classic Brazilian recipes.
As a carioca (a native of Brazil), Leticia highlights close to 100 of Rio’s best recipes in My Rio de Janeiro, including unforgettable petiscos (finger food), carioca home cooking, Portuguese-inspired foods, and contemporary urban dishes.
Stew Leonard’s will sell My Rio de Janeiro at the special price of $24.95/each. Chef Leticia’s Green Beans with Minas Cheese and Brazilian Nuts (page 101) and her Brazilian Black Bean Stew (page 38) will be demo’d during the book signing and will additionally be available for purchase on the store’s buffet bar.
Chef and cookbook author Leticia Moreinos Schwartz was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro. After finishing college with a BA in economics in Rio, she changed careers and chose to follow her dreams moving to New York City to study Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts, Food Journalism, and Food Blogging—all at The French Culinary Institute. She continued her career cooking at legendary NY restaurants such as Le Cirque 2000, La Grenouille, La Caravelle, and Payard Patisserie & Bistro. Her first cookbook, The Brazilian Kitchen won the 2010 Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Latin Cookbook. Leticia lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children.
