U. S. MARINES TO JOIN CONNECTICUT STATE, NEWINGTON TOWN OFFICIALS AND VETERANS IN LAUNCHING “OPERATION BASKET” FOR EASTER AT STEW LEONARD’S IN NEWINGTON
Newington, CT — April 19, 2019 — Stew Leonard, Jr., CEO of Stew Leonard’s, Senator Matthew Lesser, Representative Gary Turco, Representative Kerry Wood, Town of Newington Mayor Roy Zartarian and the Girl Scouts of America will be joined by dozens of veterans and community members, Friday, April 19, 2019,at 11:00 a.m., to make Easter dinner care packages for the families of United States troops deployed overseas who will not be home with their family this holiday at Stew Leonard’s in Newington. Care packages will be delivered to the families of American service members who will not be home this holiday, each containing a Stew Leonard’s spiral-cut half ham, mashed potatoes, and other Easter dinner necessities, as well as Easter candy favorites.
Veterans from the local community and Girl Scouts from Troop Number 65025 in Tolland, Conn. will fill the care packages to be delivered as a surprise to families throughout Connecticut this weekend. Stew Leonard’s shoppers will also be invited to write notes to the families of these American heroes to be included in the Easter care packages.
There are approximately 170,000 active-duty United States Military personnel deployed across the globe in over 150 countries, including Japan, Germany, South Korea, and Afghanistan. Nearly 45% of all active-duty military personnel are overseas at any given time.
