BLUMENTHAL TO HONOR GROCERY STORE WORKERS
Officials to Push for Appreciation Pay for Frontline Workers including Grocery Workers
(Hartford, CT) – On Monday April 20 at 12:30 pm at Stew Leonard’s in Newington, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and state officials will be joined by local grocer Stew Leonard, Jr., to advocate to declare grocery employees in Connecticut and throughout the nation as essential personnel. Grocery workers are interacting with hundreds-of-thousands of people each day, in providing produce, dairy, food items, and paper goods to the general public as they restock essential items during quarantine and social distancing. Blumenthal and Stew Leonard will discuss a “Heroes Fund,” proposal that Senate Democrats announced last week, which calls for a $25,000 pay increase for all essential employees putting themselves selflessly on the front line of the war on COVID-19.
Stew Leonard Jr. will also announce that Stew Leonard’s will donate a truckload of non-perishable food to the Connecticut Food Bank. Interim CEO Daniel Gomez will be on hand to accept this donation that was facilitated by 4-CT and its newly launched 4-CT Statewide COVID-19 Relief Fund.
