2018 HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS AT STEW LEONARD’S NEWINGTON STORE
Stew Leonard’s Newington store announces the Halloween Happenings it is hosting throughout the month of October 2018, including free family movie nights on Fridays, a free Hay Maze, and family-friendly activities throughout the month!
Halloween Hay Bale Theater
This October 2018, Stew’s Garden Shoppe will be transformed into a Hay Bale Theater to show a free children’s Halloween-themed movie! The movies will be shown on Friday, October 12 and Friday, October 19. For movie titles and additional information, please see in-store. The movies begin at 7:00 P.M., with seating opening at 6:30 P.M. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Kids can also dance to Halloween music with their favorite Stew’s characters before the movie starts! Snacks will be provided.
Pumpkin Carving Demo
Pumpkin carver Lenny Calvin, former contestant on Food Network’s Halloween Wars Season 6, will be at the store on Saturday, October 6, 2018 to bewitch shoppers with his elaborate Halloween-themed carvings on the store’s pumpkins.
The carving will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Garden Shop for customers to see and enjoy as they pick out their own pumpkins. The carver will use clay tools and X-Acto knives to create a spooky scene on the pumpkin.

Get in the autumn spirit by joining us for our seasonal pumpkin class! We will prepare homemade pumpkin oatmeal cookies, pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, and pumpkin cinnamon sugar donuts! In addition, each child will be able to paint and decorate a mini pumpkin to take home.

Stew’s Spooktacular Costume Dance Party
Friday, October 26, 2018 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Join the team at Stew Leonard’s in Newington for our first ever Halloween Dance Party on Friday, October 26, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. hosted by our characters and their friends! Stew Leonard’s culinary team will offer grilled hot dogs, chicken tenders, French fries, macaroni and cheese, brick oven pizza, apple cider, and apple cider donuts. We will have a spooky dance floor for everyone to show off their best moves with our costumed characters! Each child will receive a Halloween goodie bag at the end of the event.
Adults and children ages 12 and over will be charged $14.99/each and children age 11 and younger will be charged $12.99/each. Limited spots available. Reservations for the Spooktacular Dance Party must be made in advance.
Stew Leonard’s Barkfest Canceled due to inclement weather
Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
This Halloween, dogs are invited to Stew Leonard’s for a howling good time at the store’s first Barkfest event on October 27, 2018! Customers may bring their pups dressed in their best Halloween costumes and enter for their chance to win a Bubba’s Barkery Gift Basket valued at $100, which contains fresh dog treats made in-house at Stew Leonard’s. To enter a dog, shoppers are kindly asked to bring a small bag or can of dog food and all collected dog food will be donated to a local pet shelter. In Newington, the event will begin at 11:00 a.m. and a winner will be selected by a panel of Stew Leonard’s judges by 11:30 a.m. For complete rules, please see in-store.
Design a Trick-or-Treat Bag Workshop
Monday, October 29, 2018 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m.
$25 per child
In today’s class, children will design a personalized trick-or-treat canvas bag to use on Halloween night! Our hosts will teach kids step by step how to design their bag by using different techniques. Along with this, each child will decorate two Halloween cupcakes to take home. Ages 6-12.
Trick-or-Treat with the Stew Leonard’s Characters
On Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., children are invited to dress in their costumes and come to Stew Leonard’s in Newington to go trick or treating. Each department in the store will have a candy station for kids to stop at. Children can come with their own bags, or Stew Leonard’s will provide one for them. Stew Leonard’s famous characters, including mascot Wow the Cow, will be available for taking photos with the children.
**Due to a high level of interest from our shoppers, Stew Leonard’s in Newington will offer free tickets to the Trick-or-Treat event to 500 kids. Kids Hay Maze
Kids of all ages will delight in Stew Leonard’s Hay Maze, located under the tent in the Pumpkin Patch. The Hay Maze is open every day in October from 8:00 A.M. until dark.
